A 31-year-old Chinese racing cyclist crashed on Tuesday morning while descending the so-called Höll in the Hötting district of Innsbruck and was seriously injured in the process.

According to police, the man was riding downhill on the steep street called "Höll" in the Hötting district when he lost control of his racing bike for unknown reasons. "Ein 31-jähriger Chinese ist Dienstagvormittag in Innsbruck bei einem Unfall mit seinem Rennrad schwer verletzt worden," a police statement said.

The cyclist fell and struck his head on the asphalt, according to police. Despite the crash, he was wearing a helmet, which apparently could not fully prevent serious injuries upon impact, investigators said. After receiving initial care at the scene, the injured man was transported by rescue services to a hospital, police added.
