In the course of a raid at the Rheinbach correctional facility (Justizvollzugsanstalt Rheinbach), the Bonn public prosecutor's office is investigating seven current and one former employee on suspicion of corruption; according to his own account, Justice Minister Benjamin Limbach only learned of the searches on Tuesday morning at 8:31 a.m.
Searches and Seizures
On Tuesday morning at 7:30 a.m., police and prosecutor's office task forces had searched premises of JVA Rheinbach as well as apartments in Cologne, Euskirchen, Rheinbach, Siegburg and in the districts of Mayen-Koblenz and Neuwied. As the North Rhine-Westphalian Ministry of Justice reported in a confidential special session of the Legal Affairs Committee of the Düsseldorf state parliament, the measures were directed against a total of eight employees of the facility. Seven of them are currently employed at the JVA, and one person has already left the service.
