Austria's regulatory authority Rail Control presented its current market report on Tuesday, according to which roughly half of the delays in long-distance rail traffic stem from events abroad.

Maria-Theresia Röhsler explained that a significant share of long-distance delays is caused by incidents outside Austria. This shifts part of the responsibility for punctuality onto foreign route sections and neighboring countries whose networks are intertwined with the Austrian system.

The regulatory authority's current report also contains extensive market data. In passenger transport, the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) remained the dominant provider on domestic rails with a market share of 84.1 percent. Competitors, including Westbahn, increased their share of transported passengers to 15.9 percent.
