Rangnick rejects Milan rumors: "My negotiating partner remains the ÖFB"

AC Milan is aware that Rangnick has not yet signed the extension with the ÖFB. It is not ruled out that the national coach could make a U-turn just before signing.

In the past, Rangnick has always placed more value on the opportunity to reshape a club according to his sporting vision than on financial aspects. AC Milan is currently looking for completely new sporting management after the club missed out on Champions League qualification and parted ways with coach Massimiliano Allegri and sporting director Igli Tare.

Milan seeks new leadership – Glasner as coaching candidate

AC Milan had already tried unsuccessfully to sign Rangnick in 2020. The club belongs to Italian-American billionaire Gerry Cardinale.

Gazzetta dello Sport also reported that Oliver Glasner is the favorite for the head coach position at AC Milan. A meeting between Glasner and the Milan management is reportedly scheduled for Tuesday.

Glasner won three titles with Crystal Palace within a year – the FA Cup, the Community Shield, and the Conference League – after the club had previously gone 120 years without a trophy. After the triumph and his departure from Crystal Palace, he left his future open.

Rangnick and Glasner know each other from their time together at Red Bull Salzburg. Glasner initially worked there as a sports coordinator before becoming assistant coach to Roger Schmidt. His coaching career took him through Ried, LASK, Wolfsburg, and Frankfurt to England.

World Cup preparation and Alaba's future

In addition to the Milan position, several prominent coaching positions are vacant after the end of the club season, including the job at FC Liverpool since Saturday. Bournemouth coach Andoni Iraola is also frequently mentioned as a candidate for open positions.

Regardless of the speculation, Rangnick is preparing with the Austrian national team for the last test match before the World Cup. On Monday, Austria will face Tunisia, which was deliberately chosen as an opponent because Rangnick sees similarities to their first World Cup group opponent, Jordan.

David Alaba, whose contract with Real Madrid has expired, is fully focused on his first World Cup participation in the meantime. In an interview with "Sport am Sonntag," the soon-to-be 34-year-old said: "In the last few days, I have really been 100 percent here and can fully concentrate on the World Cup. I cannot influence what happens in the next few weeks. I try to be completely in the here and now." He ruled out a move to Austria. Alaba is linked with Inter Milan, Juventus Turin, and clubs from Saudi Arabia, but could also remain in the USA.
