Vienna, June 13, 2026

The Austrian Football Association (ÖFB) has extended head coach Ralf Rangnick's contract beyond the end of the World Cup until the end of 2027, the association announced on Saturday shortly before Austria's first World Cup match against Jordan.

The agreement comes at a sporting high: Austria had qualified for a World Cup tournament for the first time in 28 years in November, courtesy of a 1:1 in the play-off against Bosnia and Herzegovina in Vienna. The group stage matches will take place in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. On Tuesday (06:00 CEST) the ÖFB team faces Jordan in Santa Clara, with further opponents being defending champions Argentina and Algeria.

In spring 2026, Austria had won all three of its World Cup warm-up matches and travels to North America full of confidence. Rangnick has been head coach since June 2022, succeeding Franco Foda. From 45 matches on the sidelines, his record stands at 27 wins, 8 draws, and 10 defeats. His points-per-game average of 1.98 is the highest of any ÖFB head coach since 1945, provided one uses a benchmark of at least ten matches.
