An Afghan citizen has been charged in Vienna with the urgent suspicion of having sexually abused two 16-year-old girls in an apartment in the Rudolfsheim-Fünfhaus district, police announced on Tuesday.

Emergency call in the early morning hours

The case came to light through an emergency call early Tuesday morning. As police spokesperson Philipp Haßlinger explained, one of the two victims had called the police emergency number at around 5 a.m. and reported that she and a friend of the same age had been abused in the apartment. The patrol officers deployed found the two juveniles still in the apartment, where they were also able to secure evidence.

As part of the immediately initiated search measures, the suspect was apprehended on the same day. According to the investigators, the Vienna Special Operations Unit (WEGA) was involved in the arrest. The man was then taken to the correctional facility and has been in pretrial detention since.
