On suspicion of a dangerous threat, the WEGA stormed an apartment in Vienna-Penzing at noon on Tuesday and arrested a 36-year-old after a jealousy-fueled dispute had escalated.

According to initial investigations, the 36-year-old suspected that an acquaintance was having a relationship with his partner. This suspicion led, according to police, to threats that triggered the operation.

Background: Jealousy as the trigger

Because there was a suspicion that a firearm might be located in the apartment, the WEGA was called in. The officers broke down the door and searched the premises. An initial assessment by the officers indicated that the weapon found was an air rifle.

The major operation began shortly before 12:00 p.m. The area around Maroltingergasse and Leyserstraße was cordoned off over a wide perimeter while the officers carried out their operation in the apartment. Residents had to expect temporary restrictions.
