Red Bull Salzburg set to sign Danny Röhl as new head coach

Röhl, born on 28 April 1989, is no stranger to the Red Bull network. He already worked at RB Leipzig under Ralf Rangnick as a video analyst and later also served there as an assistant coach under Ralph Hasenhüttl. According to consistent reports, these stations have earned him a strong reputation within the Red Bull group, which has apparently facilitated the talks with Salzburg. Last season, Röhl was also on the list at RB Leipzig, which ultimately opted for Ole Werner.

Röhl began his coaching career as a head coach around three years ago at English club Sheffield Wednesday, where he made a name for himself. From there, he moved in October 2023 to the Scottish Premiership to join Glasgow Rangers. With Rangers, he finished the past season in third place behind Celtic and Heart of Midlothian, averaging 1.83 points per match across 40 games. His contract in Glasgow runs until 2028.

Assistant stations under Hansi Flick

Before taking charge of his own teams, Röhl gained extensive experience as an assistant alongside Hansi Flick. At FC Bayern Munich, he was part of the staff that won the treble of Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal and Champions League in the 2019/20 season. He subsequently followed Flick to the German national team, where he also served as an assistant coach. Röhl also worked at Southampton in England with Ralph Hasenhüttl.

In Salzburg, Röhl faces a demanding task. The club has been waiting three years for a league title and currently sits third in the Austrian Bundesliga. The squad comprises 30 players with a total market value of €126.95 million. The latest signing was Damir Redzic. Mann had already initiated a comprehensive overhaul in the summer, during which several assistant coaches, squad planners and backroom staff have left the club.

Time pressure before the start of pre-season

The time pressure surrounding the search is high. Red Bull Salzburg's players are scheduled to begin performance tests on Tuesday as they start preparations for the new season.
