The Austrian Red Cross (ÖRK) has warned about the health risks of the current heatwave, emphasizing that not only older people or those with pre-existing conditions are affected.
Rising Callouts During Heat
In light of the persistently high temperatures across large parts of Austria, the Austrian Red Cross has pointed out the health dangers that also exist for physically healthy people. Director General Wolfgang Schreiber said that under such weather conditions, not only does mortality rise — as AGES, among others, has noted in recent days — but the number of emergency response operations also increases significantly, by around ten to 15 percent. Heat stress is therefore a serious challenge for the entire emergency medical care system.
