Fifa President Gianni Infantino has, according to research by several media outlets, tried to build a European Super League under the control of Fifa, with the brother of former US adviser Jared Kushner set to lead a billion-dollar stake as an investor.

Background on the plans

The revelation casts a new light on the power games in international football. According to this, Infantino is said to have pursued plans to create his own version of the European Super League under the umbrella of the world governing body. The football association Fifa initially did not comment on the allegations when asked.

At the center of the reports is Joshua Kushner, brother of Jared Kushner. He was to lead the project through his investment firm Thrive Capital and attract investors for a minority stake of 4.2 billion US dollars. The venture was reportedly to be supported by the US major bank JP Morgan.
