Republican senators have stalled a major immigration funding bill that included a $1.8 billion compensation fund for alleged victims of government agency politicization, delaying the legislation until at least June.

The proposed $72 billion package, which would have funded former President Donald Trump's aggressive deportation initiatives, was effectively shelved after Republican lawmakers objected to a provision creating a compensation fund. The fund would distribute payments to individuals claiming they were politically targeted by government agencies.

Among potential recipients could be some individuals involved in the January 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol, though the exact eligibility criteria remain unclear. This aspect of the bill drew particular ire from several Republican senators.
