In the Northern Irish capital Belfast, hundreds of people protested against immigration on Tuesday evening after a man was seriously injured in a knife attack on Monday, setting fire to vehicles, a bus, and buildings in the process.
In the incident on Monday, a man was attacked with a knife on an open street and seriously injured. A video published on online services before the protests shows a perpetrator attacking a man lying on the ground, covered in blood, multiple times with a knife and apparently attempting to slit his throat. The police asked that this not be circulated further.

According to police, the alleged perpetrator is a 30-year-old man from Sudan. The 30-year-old was arrested and is to be brought before a judge on Wednesday. The suspect has since been charged with attempted murder, weapons possession, and death threats. According to police, the suspect received a five-year visa in 2023. However, the police see no indications of a terrorist background.
