The Italian authorities have declared the area around the Colosseum, the Imperial Forums, the Roman Forum, and the Capitoline Hill in Rome a zone with enhanced controls.

Extent of the new security zone

The measure applies to a heavily frequented core area of the Italian capital. According to the reports, the affected areas include the Colosseum, the Fori Imperiali, the Roman Forum, and the Capitoline Hill with the Capitoline Hill itself – areas visited daily by numerous tourists.

The aim of the new regulation, according to Italian media reports, is to more effectively curb thefts, assaults, and other crimes in the area. Within the designated zone, police can carry out more targeted checks on suspicious persons and intervene more quickly if necessary. Access for vehicles, including police vehicles, will also be more strictly regulated.
