Rügenwalder Mühle recalls vegan Cordon bleu due to possible plastic particles

According to the information, the following batches with their respective best-before dates are affected: 0003873273 (18.06.2026), 0003873703 (18.06.2026), 0003874453 (21.06.2026), 0003874634 (22.06.2026), 0003874871 (22.06.2026), 0003875883 (23.06.2026), 0003875862 (25.06.2026) and D262025 (15.06.2026). Products with other best-before dates are not affected, it said.

According to the company, the products were sold in Germany as well as in parts of Austria and Switzerland. This means the recall notices could extend beyond the German market to two additional countries.

Sale in multiple countries

Consumers who have purchased one of the affected articles will receive a refund of the purchase price at their point of sale even without a receipt, according to the company. With this, Rügenwalder Mühle is responding to the difficulty that affected buyers do not always have the original receipt at hand.

In addition to the refund, further measures are underway at the manufacturer: any remaining stock still in stores will be removed from the shelves, it said. This is intended to prevent additional packages from reaching end consumers.

Return possible without a receipt

Rügenwalder Mühle described the recall as a precautionary measure. The notice initially contained no indications of any already reported injuries or illnesses in connection with the affected batches. The manufacturer announced that it would investigate the cause of the possible contamination.

The affected product is "Veganes Mühlen Cordon Bleu mit Sojaprotein." It is one of the vegan meat substitute products with which Rügenwalder Mühle has grown in recent years beyond its classic sausage and ham range. According to the company, the possible contamination with transparent plastic particles explicitly concerns only the listed batches.

Background: A growing vegan range

The matter was distributed via the dpa news channel and carries the sender code dpa-AFX. In such food recalls, the authorities of the affected federal states as well as the respective retail chains are usually involved; official statements from the responsible food supervisory authorities were not the focus of the company's notice initially.

For consumers, the recall means concretely: check the package, compare the batch and best-before date with the list, and do not consume the product in the event of a match. Instead, it can be returned without presenting a receipt at the store where it was purchased.

The case is part of a series of recalls of packaged foods in which production residues in individual packages cannot be completely ruled out. Rügenwalder Mühle, a long-established company from Bad Zwischenahn, is one of the better-known manufacturers in Germany and has significantly expanded its vegan range in recent years.
