Qualifying Results at a Glance
In qualifying for the Barcelona-Catalonia GP, the Briton in the Mercedes set the fastest lap and secured the first starting position with a time of 1:14.679 minutes. It was Russell's third pole of the season and at the same time the 150th pole position for Mercedes in Formula 1 history. Over the radio, Russell told his garage: „Es ist schön, wieder den Groove zu spüren“.
Compatriot Lewis Hamilton in the Ferrari came dangerously close to Russell, but in the end missed out by 64 thousandths. The record world champion therefore lines up in second place and takes the front row directly behind the Mercedes driver. Russell had scored no points in the two previous races and is now setting his sights on his second win of the season after the opening victory in Melbourne.
