Russia attacked the Ukrainian capital Kyiv on the night of Sunday with dozens of ballistic missiles and drones, killing at least one person and injuring 16 others.

Scale of the attack

President Volodymyr Zelensky spoke of 40 missiles of various types, most of them aimed at the capital, as well as 120 attack drones. According to the Ukrainian air defense, 23 missile strikes and 10 drone strikes were recorded; a large part of the aerial objects were destroyed.

Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported hits and damage in several districts. Fires broke out in five districts; several residential buildings as well as a shopping and leisure center were damaged. Several houses and cars were also destroyed.

A metro station had to suspend operations. In the center of the three-million city, dozens of explosions could be heard during the night, some from air defense missiles. Zelensky described the attack as one of the most massive ballistic strikes on Kyiv.
