Russia's Supreme Court on Monday barred the liberal opposition party Yabloko from participating in the parliamentary election, according to decisions and reports from Russian and international media.

The decision was made during a hearing in Moscow, where, according to observers involved, numerous young Russians protested in front of the courthouse. Media reports stated that "hundreds of young Russians shouted in front of the Supreme Court on Monday." The atmosphere on site was tense, with security forces deployed.

Yabloko: Liberal Voice Against the War

Yabloko has belonged to the liberal camp of Russian politics for decades and clearly positions itself against the war led by the Russian leadership. The party is considered one of the few remaining opposition forces still able to officially register. With this exclusion, it now lacks the opportunity to submit candidate lists in the next parliamentary election.
