RWE has settled a long-running dispute with US authorities over its American offshore wind business, with the German energy group set to receive a multi-billion-dollar compensation payment, according to multiple reports.
The settlement covers RWE's former US offshore wind activities through its subsidiary RWE Offshore Wind Holdings, based in the United States. Reports cite operations in Louisiana and California, regions where RWE had previously held stakes in offshore wind projects. Under the terms of the agreement, RWE will receive a multi-billion-dollar compensation package from US authorities.
RWE Americas and RWE U.S. Offshore are the principal entities named in connection with the settlement. The company's withdrawal from the US offshore wind market had previously left it exposed to claims and disputes with regulators and counterparties. The new settlement provides a defined financial outcome for those exposures.
