Top-seeded Aryna Sabalenka was eliminated at the Wimbledon Grand Slam on Sunday in the round of 16 by Japan's Naomi Osaka and thus once again missed out on reaching the final in London.

The Belarusian lost Sunday's round-of-16 match against Japan's Naomi Osaka 2-6, 6-7 (2-7). With that, the world No. 1 is already out in the round of the best 16. Sabalenka has celebrated four Grand Slam titles, but reaching the final at Wimbledon has remained elusive.

Already at the start of the year, Sabalenka had lost the final at the Australian Open. At the French Open in Paris, she was eliminated in the quarterfinals and likewise appeared deeply disappointed at the time. Wimbledon is therefore the third Grand Slam tournament this year in which the 28-year-old has fallen short of her own expectations.
