Taliban security forces violently broke up a demonstration for women's rights on Tuesday in the western Afghan city of Herat, killing at least one boy by gunfire, according to the UN mission in Afghanistan.
On Tuesday, between 100 and 150 people had demonstrated in Herat against the weekend arrests of women. As the UN mission in Afghanistan reported, the shots were fired by security forces. The UN mission in Afghanistan reported on Wednesday that at least one person, a boy, had been killed by gunfire. There were also reports of a second death and several injuries from beatings with sticks.
