Todd Blanche, 51, faced sharp criticism on Wednesday from Democratic senators during a U.S. Senate hearing on his nomination as U.S. Attorney General. They accuse him of turning the Department of Justice into a political tool against Donald Trump's opponents.

Hearing and Accusations

Blanche, who previously served as Trump's personal lawyer, is to permanently take over the vacant post at the top of the Department of Justice. In the spring, Trump had first fired Pam Bondi as Attorney General and temporarily installed Blanche as acting successor. Senate confirmation is required for permanent approval.
