Acting US Attorney General Todd Blanche is to be permanently nominated for the office at the behest of President Donald Trump, as Trump announced in a video posted on X.

The formal nomination is to be initiated on Thursday, Trump said in the video, which White House Deputy Chief of Staff Dan Scavino posted on the platform X. Blanche has been serving as interim Attorney General since early April, after his predecessor Pam Bondi was dismissed by Trump.

Blanche and Trump share a long-standing professional relationship. Before Trump's re-election, Blanche was part of his defense team in the New York criminal proceedings concerning the unlawful booking of hush money payments to a pornographic actress. Blanche later worked as a personal lawyer for Trump and is considered a loyal supporter of the president.
