The chairman of the Senior Union, Hubert Hüppe, has called in the debate over pension reform for young people to start their careers earlier, while at the same time expressing openness to a further increase in the statutory retirement age.
Hüppe calls for shorter school and university periods
In an interview with the Rheinische Post, the 69-year-old Hubert Hüppe spoke out in favor of shortening school and university periods so that young people enter the labor market earlier and sooner become contributors to the social systems. "Schul- und Studienzeiten müssten kürzer und schlanker werden, damit junge Menschen früher arbeiteten und eher zu Einzahlern in die Sozialsysteme würden," the CDU politician told the newspaper. Specifically, it did not have to go as far as in his own youth, when many began working at 14, but starting only at 30 was likewise not the right path. "Es muss nicht wie in meiner Jugend mit 14 Jahren sein, aber es sollte auch nicht erst mit 30 losgehen."
