Germany’s Taxpayers' Federation has thrown its weight behind a controversial plan by CDU parliamentary leader Jens Spahn to cut all state subsidies and tax incentives by 5% to fund tax relief measures.
Subsidy Cuts Gain Momentum
The proposal, which Spahn first outlined last week, calls for a blanket 5% reduction across all subsidies and tax breaks, a move the Taxpayers' Federation argues is necessary to rein in excessive government spending. Reiner Holznagel, the organization’s president, explicitly backed the plan, stating, "Das ist richtig und das muss auch in diese Richtung gehen. Wir brauchen den sogenannten Rasenmäher im Bundeshaushalt." ("This is correct, and it must go in this direction. We need the so-called lawnmower in the federal budget.")
