The stallion Dardanos, ridden by jockey Wladimir Panov, won the 157th German Galopp Derby in Hamburg-Horn, thereby posting the highest winning odds in Derby history.

On Sunday, the three-year-old stallion Dardanos prevailed over 2,400 meters on the racecourse in Hamburg-Horn by a length and collected winner's prize money of 390,000 euros. His jockey Wladimir Panov spoke after the race of a barely comprehensible moment: „Ich kann es kaum begreifen. Das ist der Hammer und das Beste, was mir in meiner Karriere passieren konnte“ and added: „Der größte Tag in meinem Jockey-Leben. Unvergesslich. Ich bin einfach nur happy.“

Dardanos went off at odds of 848:10 – the highest odds ever recorded for a winner of the German Derby. Of 18 starters, the outsider galloped across the finish line in first place against all expectations. His owners Friedrich von Lenthe and Hans-Wilhelm Jenckel from Stall Bergholz had once acquired the stallion as a yearling at an auction in Iffezheim for just 10,000 euros.
