A particularly dangerous inmate seriously injured a prison guard at Stein Correctional Facility on Friday morning by punching him in the face without any apparent reason.

Background: Security Unit and Incidents

The incident occurred on Friday morning in the security unit of Stein Correctional Facility. As prison guard union representative Wolfgang Graf described to the APA, the 23-year-old inmate struck the 39-year-old officer in the face without warning. The employee sustained significant facial injuries. Six officers from the specialized Prison Guard Task Force (JEG) rushed to assist the injured man.

After an initial violent attack on a female officer, the inmate had only been transferred to the security unit the previous week. He had previously been housed in Stein's general population, but was classified as particularly dangerous. Friday's escalation raises questions about the security architecture within the facility.
