Severe thunderstorms on Sunday evening caused around 80 fire department callouts in the city of Salzburg, damaging parts of the trolleybus fleet and flooding several underpasses.

Heavy storms swept through the city of Salzburg on Sunday evening, producing widespread disruption to local transport and infrastructure. Firefighters were called out roughly 80 times across the city as the weather system moved through, dealing with flooded roads, waterlogged underpasses and damage to overhead lines used by the trolleybus network.

Reinhard Gassner, managing director of Salzburg Linien, said the weather event caused significant operational restrictions but likely prevented greater damage to the vehicles. In remarks reported by multiple outlets, he stated: "Das hat zwar zu erheblichen Einschränkungen im Betrieb geführt, dürfte aber größere Schäden an den Fahrzeugen verhindert haben."
