An 18-year-old was killed by gunfire at a graduation ceremony in Fairfield, in the US state of California, on Wednesday evening; three other people were injured.

The incident occurred on the sidelines of a graduation ceremony at a high school in Fairfield, northwest of San Francisco. According to police, the shots were fired in the school parking lot while graduates were posing for commemorative photos. An 18-year-old succumbed to his injuries at the scene, authorities confirmed.

According to police, three other people were injured: an eleven-year-old child, a 20-year-old, and a 25-year-old. Nothing further was initially known about their health status or the severity of their injuries. An eyewitness told local television station KCRA that the shots were fired at the moment families and friends were taking photos in the parking lot area.
