Jannik Sinner, as defending champion, has reached the third round at the All England Tennis Championships in Wimbledon and will now have to hold his own against American Jenson Brooksby.

South Tyrolean Jannik Sinner has cleared the second hurdle at the All England Tennis Championships and advanced to the third round of the grass-court classic. Against Portugal's Nuno Borges, the defending champion needed three sets but ultimately won the match 7:6(4), 7:6(2), 6:4. Sinner did not drop a set throughout the entire contest and continued to build his form on Wimbledon conditions.

In his first meeting with Borges, Sinner came under pressure early. In the second set, he trailed 1:2 after the break but stabilized in time. At 5:4, Borges initially served for the set and had a set point on his racket before Sinner struck back and won the tiebreak 7:2. „Insgesamt bin ich bei solchen Spielen, in denen man wenig Kontrolle hat, sehr froh über den Sieg“, said Sinner after the match. Looking ahead to the upcoming challenges, he added: „Besonders auf diesem Belag habe ich jetzt zwei Siege (diese Woche, Anm.) geholt. Natürlich werden wir sehen, was die Zukunft bringt, aber ich bin sehr zufrieden mit dem Ergebnis. Es gibt ein paar Dinge, die wir verbessern müssen, aber ich bin sehr glücklich."
