Zverev battles through

Zverev, who had won his first Grand Slam title at the French Open in Paris roughly three weeks earlier, looked somewhat tense after the match but remained confident in his assessment. "Roland Garros im Kopf zu haben, hilft", Zverev said in his on-court interview and added: "Ich habe hier zu kämpfen, das ist kein Geheimnis". He said it had been difficult for him to stay focused against the Belgian.

Both matches were played on the outside courts, since tradition dictates that former Wimbledon champions take center stage on Centre Court. According to the organizers, members of the Royal Box as well as several tennis legends were in attendance.
