The world number one Jannik Sinner of Italy won his opening match against Serbia's Miomir Kecmanovic 4-6, 6:3, 6:7(6), 6:2, 6:3 on Monday at Wimbledon, advancing to the next round.

The 24-year-old Italian, who is competing in London as the defending champion, had arrived without a preparatory grass-court tournament and fell behind early. After losing the first set, he trailed by two set points in the third, but fought back and decided the match in his favor after more than four hours of play. On court, Sinner stopped several times, grabbed his hip, and dropped to his knees in the third set at 2:2 – but continued to play without a medical timeout.
