Six injured in collision of two cars in Erpfendorf on the B 178

All those involved were taken by ambulance to the hospital St. Johann in Tirol. The 53-year-old Austrian was admitted as an inpatient for observation. The family of the 47-year-old Dane as well as the second driver were treated on an outpatient basis.

Both cars were significantly damaged. Photos from the accident site showed crumpled fronts and shattered windows. The Erpfendorf fire department was deployed to bind leaked operating fluids and secure the accident site.

Deployment of rescue services

The Loferer Straße (B 178) is a heavily frequented connection between Wörgl and Lofer in this section. On Saturday midday there was heavy holiday traffic according to the police, which complicated the recovery of the injured and the closure of the accident site.

The investigations into the exact course of the accident are ongoing. The police are particularly checking whether the 53-year-old disregarded the stop sign at the junction onto the B 178. An alcohol test was carried out on both drivers according to the police; the result was not initially available.

Closure and traffic disruptions

The B 178 was closed in the area of the accident site for around two hours. Traffic was diverted locally, resulting in congestion and disruptions on the alternative route. The road was not reopened until late in the afternoon.

The police appealed in this context to drivers to exercise particular caution at intersections and junctions onto state roads. Especially on heavily frequented tourist routes such as the B 178, serious collisions occur regularly in summer.

Police notices

For the affected Danish family, who according to current findings was on a holiday trip in Tyrol, the crisis intervention team of the Red Cross was also notified according to the police. An interpreter helped with communication between rescue services and relatives.

The amount of property damage caused was not quantified by the police. Both vehicles had to be recovered by a towing service.
