Of the 500 billion euros in the special fund for infrastructure and the environment, only around 24 billion euros have actually been disbursed so far – significantly less than originally planned.
Last year, the Bundestag and Bundesrat approved additional loans totaling 500 billion euros for a special fund for infrastructure and climate protection. Over a period of twelve years, this is intended to resolve a long-standing investment backlog in Germany. The funds are earmarked for, among other things, better schools and daycare centers, affordable and climate-friendly energy, high-speed internet, and additional housing. By 2045, the special fund is also intended to achieve climate protection goals.
