Belgium's national football team must go without defender Zeno Debast in the World Cup quarterfinal against Spain on Friday evening (9:00 p.m./ZDF, MagentaTV) because his club Sporting Lisbon has prohibited the 22-year-old's involvement on medical grounds.
The Portuguese top-flight club Sporting Lisbon is thereby digging in its heels and blocking the use of its center-back in what is likely the most important match of Belgium's tournament mission. Zeno Debast, a 26-cap international, is unavailable from a medical standpoint according to his club. Sporting announced this on Thursday; the Belgian Football Association RBFA responded shortly afterward with a statement in which it expressly rejected the club's assessment.
