For Berliners, the program means above all more security in the background. Day-to-day life should not change – the electricity should continue to flow reliably. At the same time, the city's resilience against disruptions increases, which could have serious consequences in an emergency.

With this decision, Berlin also positions itself as a pioneer among Germany's major cities. Comparable municipal grid operators are also investing in the protection of their facilities, but the volume of 200 million euros over five years is considered remarkable.

Overall, the step shows that the security of Berlin's power supply is understood as a long-term task. The planned measures are not to be understood as a reaction to a specific incident, but as a precautionary strengthening of the infrastructure.
