Luigi Mangione, the man accused of fatally shooting UnitedHealthcare executive Brian Thompson on a Manhattan street, has confessed to the killing and acknowledged stalking the executive beforehand, prosecutors said in court filings this week.
Mangione is charged with first-degree murder in the December 2024 death of Thompson, then the chief executive of UnitedHealthcare's insurance business, who was gunned down outside a Midtown hotel where the company's annual investor conference was being held. According to prosecutors, Mangione not only admitted to the shooting during police questioning but also acknowledged that he had stalked Thompson in the days leading up to the attack, contradicting his earlier public denials.
