A swarm of mosquitoes delayed a Ryanair flight to Alicante at Milan Malpensa airport by almost three hours because insects had infested the aircraft cabin.

Background of the incident

A swarm of mosquitoes caused an unusual disruption to flight operations at Milan Malpensa airport. How the mosquitoes got into the cabin initially remained unclear. According to media reports, the aircraft was already prepared for departure to Alicante when the insects appeared in larger numbers in the cabin.

A Ryanair flight to Alicante was unable to take off until nearly three hours late, after the insects had infested the cabin of the aircraft. The crew responded to the unexpected infestation and immediately initiated measures to protect the passengers.

For hygiene reasons, the crew decided to have all passengers disembark from the aircraft. In addition, according to media reports, the concern of a young traveler played a role, who said she was allergic to mosquito bites. This combination of hygiene concerns and a possible health risk for a fellow passenger led to the decision not to carry out the flight as planned.
