CDU parliamentary whip Thorsten Frei has reaffirmed his commitment to scrapping the early retirement option known as the 'Rente mit 63', prompting fresh criticism from labour groups and a pointed response from the BDA employers' association.
Frei, who leads the Union faction in the Bundestag, used a press appearance in Berlin on Monday to underline that the long-standing early retirement pathway should not survive the current pension reform cycle. His remarks come as the pension commission has delivered a report containing 33 recommendations covering funding, contribution rates and demographic pressures.
