Tirana, July 12, 2026

On Saturday, thousands of people took to the streets in the Albanian capital Tirana to demand the resignation of Edi Rama and to protest against a planned luxury project by Donald Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner on the Albanian Adriatic coast.

Trigger: Luxury project in nature reserve

According to AFP journalists, people have been taking to the streets in Tirana daily for weeks; on Saturday the demonstrations reached a new peak. Exact attendance figures were not initially available. The demonstrators waved Albanian flags and chanted slogans against Rama as well as against rapper Kanye West, who performs under the stage name Ye.

In addition to the planned luxury hotel in the Zvernec nature reserve on Albania's southwestern coast, the protest was also directed against a concert by Kanye West. West had met with Rama before the concert and subsequently published a video about the meeting. West had repeatedly made headlines in recent years for antisemitic remarks, generating negative press coverage.
