Erfurt, 11 June 2026

Thuringia's Minister-President Mario Voigt (CDU) has defended the use of artificial intelligence in several speeches and newspaper contributions, after the portal "Frag den Staat" had made this public.

As the portal "Frag den Staat" reported, several of Voigt's texts were largely generated by AI. Affected were contributions for the newspapers "Die Welt" and the "Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung," a memorial speech for the former Thuringian Minister-President Bernhard Vogel (1932–2025), as well as a speech at the 2025 memorial event for the victims of National Socialism. The report was broadcast on 11 June 2026 on Deutschlandfunk.

Voigt explained to the "Tagesspiegel" that the speeches were prepared in the State Chancellery. "Wenn es wirklich einzelne Passagen gab, die auch mithilfe von KI erstellt worden sind, dann werde ich dafür keinem den Kopf abreißen - grundsätzlich halte ich aber sowieso fast alle meiner Reden frei." At the same time, he advocated for the broad use of modern instruments in administration: "Ich motiviere alle Mitarbeiter unserer Verwaltung, im Jahr 2026 alle modernen Instrumente für ihre Arbeit zu nutzen. Die KI ist längst Teil der modernen Kommunikation".
