British actor Tim Curry, best known for his role in "The Rocky Horror Picture Show," died in Los Angeles on Monday at the age of 79.
The British-born Tim Curry died in Los Angeles on Monday, according to multiple US media outlets. He was 79 years old. The actor had largely withdrawn from public life in recent years after suffering a stroke in 2012.
Curry's breakthrough came in the late 1970s with the stage adaptation of "The Rocky Horror Show" in London's West End and the subsequent film adaptation, "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" (1975). In the role of the flamboyant alien Dr. Frank-N-Furter, who visits Earth and sets in motion a kind of counterculture there, Curry portrayed a character who became a cult icon. The film, too, developed into a phenomenon over the decades, with midnight screenings and a devoted fan base.
