The transfer of Italian midfielder Sandro Tonali from Newcastle United to Tottenham Hotspur is official and cost the London club €108 million plus bonuses of €8.8 million, according to consistent reports.
The reported fee of €108 million makes the 26-year-old Tonali, even without the bonuses of €8.8 million, by far the most expensive Italian in football history and the most expensive signing in Spurs history, according to the Italian sports daily "Gazzetta dello Sport" and other specialist media. He significantly surpasses the previous record holder Mateo Retegui, who had moved to the club in 2025 for just under €62 million.
For Tottenham, it is the first transfer to exceed the €100 million mark. Only last summer had the North Londoners set their then-spending record of €275 million with the signing of the Brazilian Estêvão and other players. Just center-back Jan Paul van Hecke (Brighton) as well as the midfield duo of Tonali and Mateus Fernandes already cost over €265 million.
