TSG 1899 Hoffenheim has confirmed the transfer of 20-year-old winger Bazoumana Touré to Newcastle United for a reported fee of around €50 million, a club-record sale that eclipses the mark set by Joelinton in 2019.

What's new since 2 July 2026

Update from 5 July 2026: TSG 1899 Hoffenheim has officially confirmed the departure of Ivory Coast international Bazoumana Touré to Newcastle United, with the English club paying what both clubs describe as a record fee for the Bundesliga side. Sky and Kicker had previously reported a figure of around €50 million; Hoffenheim did not publicly confirm the exact sum. The winger, who joined from Hammarby IF in February 2025 for roughly €9 million at the age of 18, has signed a long-term contract with the Premier League club after his existing deal in Sinsheim, which ran until 2029 and contained no release clause, was terminated by mutual agreement.

What's new since 2 July 2026: This update confirms the previously reported fee as a club record and adds detail on the contract situation, the player's farewell quotes, and the sporting director's full statement. Earlier coverage had flagged Borussia Dortmund's reported interest and the backdrop of Joelinton's 2019 move, but did not yet include confirmation that the transfer would set a new internal benchmark for TSG Hoffenheim.

Hoffenheim sporting director Andreas Schicker framed the deal as part of a deliberate club strategy. "Es entspricht jedoch der DNA der TSG und unserem eingeschlagenen Weg, hochveranlagte Talente zu verpflichten und gemeinsam mit unserem Trainerteam gezielt weiterzuentwickeln und ihnen den Schritt zu den Elite-Clubs zu ermöglichen," Schicker said, noting that developing players and then moving them on to top European clubs is built into the club's identity.

Hoffenheim's strategy and Schicker's comments

Schicker added that the club would have preferred to keep the player. "Natürlich hätten wir Bazou gerne weiterhin in unseren Reihen gesehen," he said, while praising Touré's contribution: "Mit seinen Leistungen hatte er maßgeblichen Anteil an der zweitbesten Saison der Vereinsgeschichte." Hoffenheim finished the campaign as runners-up in the Bundesliga, the club's second-best league result to date.

Touré himself issued an emotional farewell to the Kraichgau club. "Die TSG war wie eine Familie für mich. Ich danke meinen Teamkameraden und Trainern, aber genauso jedem Einzelnen im Klub und den Fans von Herzen," the winger said. He added, "Ich freue mich auf die Herausforderung Premier League, aber die TSG wird immer einen besonderen Platz in meinem Herzen haben." In a separate statement released through his new club, Touré said: "Seit ich klein war, war es mein Traum, in der Premier League für ein großes Team wie Newcastle zu spielen."

Touré's farewell and season numbers

Schicker credited head coach Christian Ilzer and his staff for the player's rapid progress. "Bazou hat seit seiner Verpflichtung aus Schweden im Februar 2025 eine außergewöhnliche Entwicklung genommen – einen großen Anteil daran hat auch das Trainerteam um Chris Ilzer," he said. Hoffenheim wished the player well: "Wir wünschen Bazou für seinen weiteren Weg und die Herausforderung in der Premier League von Herzen alles Gute und viel Erfolg."
