Steyr, 12 June 2026
The trial following a rockfall in the Steyr district of Unterhimmel in February 2023, in which two workers were killed, was adjourned on Friday at the Steyr Regional Court to 14 October.
On 8 February 2023, two workers, aged 31 and 64, were in the process of removing a large boulder from the crumbling slope as part of slope stabilization work. In the process, around 3,000 cubic meters of rock came loose, and the masses of stone buried the workers. Due to the extremely dangerous situation at the accident site, it took six days before the dead men could be recovered.
A total of four buildings had to be evacuated. In addition, an outbuilding of a residential house and a garage were damaged. The son of the senior company head was operating an excavator.
