Nantes, June 4, 2026

A verdict in the case of Jonathan, who was killed in West France in 2004, is expected on Thursday in Nantes in the trial against Martin N. from Bremen, known as the "Mask Man."

Background: The Crime of 2004

The 55-year-old German national, Martin N., has been on trial in Nantes since mid-May. The prosecution accuses him of kidnapping and murdering ten-year-old Jonathan in April 2004 during a school camp in Saint-Brevin-les-Pins on the French Atlantic coast. A few weeks later, the boy's unclothed body was found in a pond about 30 kilometers from the camp.

Martin N. answered questions from the court extensively during the past hearing days, but repeatedly denied any involvement in Jonathan's death. When asked about the accusation, he stated verbatim: "I did not do it." In his earlier trial in Germany, he had admitted to most of the charges against him.
