Regensburg, June 02, 2026
Approximately one year after an axe attack on an ICE train in Lower Bavaria, the trial against a 21-year-old Syrian national has begun at the Regensburg Regional Court, who is accused by the public prosecutor's office of attempted manslaughter and dangerous bodily harm.
On the first day of the hearing, the public prosecutor's office requested the permanent placement of the defendant in a psychiatric facility. It accuses him of attacking several passengers with an axe and a hammer on July 3, 2025, on an ICE train between Obertraubling and Passau. The Syrian, who was 20 years old at the time of the offense, did not comment on the allegations at the beginning of the proceedings, according to information from court circles.
