Vienna, 08 July 2026

A trial against a 60-year-old man began on Wednesday at the Vienna Regional Court. He is accused of having stalked a Viennese gallery owner for years since 2023; a psychiatric expert diagnosed an erotomanic delusion.

The accused has been in pretrial detention at Josefstadt Prison for six and a half weeks. The prosecution alleges that from 1 December 2025 onward, he persistently pursued the gallery owner—who is also a presence in society-page coverage—and unacceptably impaired her way of life. The indictment is based on Section 21(1) of the Criminal Code, which provides for placement in a forensic-therapeutic center.

The 60-year-old had met the woman when, one day—allegedly on the recommendation of an art historian—he entered her gallery. During the proceedings, he explained that he had initially sought contact with the gallery owner "weil ich wollte, dass sie sich zu meiner Arbeit äußert". The man stated that he is an artist and creates his works on a smartphone.
