Vienna, 24 July 2026
A 60-year-old former architect was committed to a forensic-therapeutic center at the Vienna Regional Court after years of stalking a Viennese gallery owner.
The jury panel presided over by Judge Christoph Bauer found the defendant guilty but not criminally responsible on Friday pursuant to §21 Paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code and ordered his commitment to a forensic-therapeutic facility. The verdict is not final, as the defendant filed notices of nullity and appeal. The man had previously been taken into custody at Josefstadt Prison and appeared at the hearing in handcuffs.
The gallery owner described in court as a witness how she had been pursued by the man over the years. "Angefangen hat es im April 2023 mit regelmäßigen unangenehmen Galeriebesuchen", schilderte sie. Between 2023 and the end of 2025, the defendant had repeatedly appeared at her gallery and had tried to establish contact with her. Her team had also suffered under the situation, as she emphasized.
