A police jurist has been standing trial since Tuesday at the Vienna Regional Court because, according to the indictment, he allegedly neglected a 54-year-old detainee and questioned him despite recognizable stroke symptoms.

Background of the case

The case centers on a man who was brought to the police detention center (PAZ) at Rossauer Lände in Vienna. As set out in the indictment, the man there drew attention to his health problems and pressed the emergency button in the holding cell. According to the indictment, neither the head of the intake unit nor the detainee officer responded. Instead of receiving medical care, the man was locked in a cell for hours, the document continues.
