St. Pölten, 14 July 2026
Before the St. Pölten Regional Court, the trial against two brothers aged 20 and 23 was continued on Tuesday. They are charged with membership in a terrorist organization and a criminal organization in connection with alleged attack plans targeting Vienna Pride 2023.
At the center of the proceedings, according to the indictment, is a Telegram group called "psychology1444," in which the two brothers, their 16-year-old sibling, and a Ukrainian are alleged to have discussed attack plans. The first defendant and his older brother are Austrian citizens; the third brother had already been sentenced at the first trial day in mid-July 2025 to a final six-month conditional sentence after having pleaded guilty to membership in the terrorist organization and the criminal organization.
Last Thursday, the hearing was continued with witness examinations. On Tuesday, an expert witness was heard first, after which the hearing was continued, for the time being, in closed session. As early as 5 August of the previous year, the hearing had been adjourned indefinitely to obtain an IT expert opinion. Additional verdicts may be handed down on Tuesday.
Status of the Evidence
According to the indictment, the first defendant planned to acquire an AK-47 assault rifle and a large knife in the Czech Republic for a terror attack, and to carry out an attack on the LGBTQ Pride held in Vienna on 17 June 2023. He and his 23-year-old brother are also alleged to have repeatedly encouraged the Ukrainian, who was prepared to carry out a suicide attack, in his intentions and pushed him toward executing the act. The Ukrainian allegedly announced in the chat that he wanted to blow himself up as a suicide bomber.
